Energy stocks were lower in pre-market trading Thursday. West Texas Intermediate crude oil for January delivery was down by $1.40 to $51.49 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. The global benchmark Brent crude February contract lost $1.31 to $60.25 per barrel and January natural gas futures were 12 cents lower at $4.35 per 1 million BTU.

In other sector news:

(-) Kinder Morgan ( KMI ) was down 1% after S&P Global Platts reported that the company is sticking to its projected timeline for the liquefied natural gas export terminal it is constructing in Georgia's Elba Island.

(-) Patterson-UTI Energy ( PTEN ) was flat as it said it had an average of 185 drilling rigs operating in November. This compares to an average of 181 drilling rigs operating in October.
