Consumer stocks were posting declines this afternoon, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 sinking more than 1.4%, while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were dropping 1.2%.

Among consumer stocks moving on news:

(+) Kroger Company ( KR ) was more than 2% higher Thursday after the grocery chain reported above-consensus Q3 financial results.

In other sector news:

(-) Lands' End ( LE ) has reversed course in Thursday's market selloff, giving up a nearly 6% gain soon after the opening bell after the apparel retailer reported above-consensus Q3 revenue and a $0.10 per share quarterly profit, matching analyst estimates.

(-) Thor Industries ( THO ) was stuck in reverse on Thursday, falling almost 7%, after missing analyst forecasts with its fiscal Q1 earnings. Excluding one-time items, earnings were $1.28 per share, below the Capital IQ consensus.
